Hello and happy March!  I'm so glad that you're here and hope you are having a wonderful day!  Today I am hopping with some of my talented stamping friends from around the world who love creating with Stampin' Up!® products as much as I do!  We love hopping on the second weekends of the month - Saturday or Sunday depending on where you are in the world - and love sharing lots of inspiration with you.  There are several of us hopping today - you will find the list to follow along towards the bottom of my blog post - so sit back and relax with your favorite cuppa as you peruse the hop.

This month we are sharing projects based on our Technique Challenge - Watercolor Backgrounds!  I am sure that you will find lots of different interpretations and inspiration from this fun challenge.

Today's Project

This month's challenge worked well for a birthday card that I needed to make for earlier this week!  My amazing mom celebrated her 86th birthday and she loves yellow flowers... whether they're roses, lilies, daisies or daffodils!  The new Online Exclusive Year of Flowers Stamp Set was a must for celebrating her!!!

Project Details

The watercolor background was created on a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.  The paper was saturated with water using my broad tip Water Painter.  Two drops of water and two drops Azure Afternoon ink refill were added to the inside lid of my Azure Afternoon ink pad.  What a controlled fun mess I made.  Swatches of ink were painted in downward arching strokes on the watercolor paper.  Imagine streaks of sunlight in a bright blue sky... that was the effect I was after... and as it dried naturally, I was rather happy.

The March daffodil image was stamped in Tuxudo Black Memento ink on Basic White cardstock.  The daffodil images were colored with Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green Stampin' Blends.  Some of the images were diecut with the 2nd smallest rectangle from the Perennial Postage Dies while others were lovingly fussycut as I did not order the coordinating dies.

Linen Thread was double wrapped around the watercolor paper tying it off with a bow to represent a package.  Two diecuts were edged with Light Granny Apple Green and adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.  A third diecut was adhered to fourth diecut and adhered to the card front with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

The white heat embossed sentiment was fussycut and adhered Stampin' Dimensionals and Mini Glue Dots.

A few dots representing dew drops from the Opal Rounds Assortment were added as a finishing touch.

The inside was layered and stamped to compliment the card front.  A leftover strip of the watercolor background was trimmed to fit the inside.  The Basic White Medium Envelope front and flap were stamped and colored to complete the card ensemble.

More Inspiration

I hope that you have enjoyed this technique challenge and will use it yourself to create some cards for friends and family.  Up next on the blog hop is my friend and Artisan alum, Teri West, where you can continue along to see what she and all the others have created.  I am sure you will be filled with lots of inspiration!  And should you be inspired, please leave us a comment...  we love to hear from you.
