Flight & Airy Watercolor World for the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop - February 2024 | Favorite Techniques

Today's Project

My all time favorite card technique is watercoloring stamps.  With the retirement of Shimmery White Cardstock which was my go-to cardstock for doing this technique, it's been awhile since I've attempted this fun technique.  With the current selection of Stampin' Up! products, you will see that I am still able to enjoy my much loved technique!

Project Details

Who needs to watercolor stamps when you can fussy cut this beautiful Flight & Airy 12" x 12" Designer Series Paper (earn for FREE with a qualifying order during Sale-a-Bration)?  I enjoyed the 13 minutes it took me to trim this beauty.  The backdrop for this breathtaking watercolor was a Basic White Cardstock layer embossed with the Softly Sophisticated Embossing Folder (earn for FREE with a qualifying order during Sale-a-Bration) and die-cut with one of the Thoughtful Expressions Dies.

Soft Sea Foam ink was added to the embossed background with a Small Blending Brush to coordinate with the Soft Sea Foam cardbase.  The Thoughtful Moments sentiment was embossed and die-cut in the hybrid embossing folder with a touch of VersaMark ink applied with the Brayer.  With the addition of the Heat & Stick Powder, Gilded Leafing was added for a special touch.  NOTE:  Applying leafing requires patience.  It took two additional applications of VersaMark ink and Heat & Stick Powder with the leafing brushed off with a retired sponge. 

The embossing and blending was repeated on the inside of the card leaving plenty of room to correspond to the recipient.  The Basic White Medium Envelope flap repeated the same to complete the card ensemble.

The Watercolor World image is a stamp that looks like watercoloring!  The image was inked with Lost Lagoon ink onto a Very Vanilla Cardstock layer.  The stamped layer was crumpled and wadded to create an antiqued feel.  The unfolded layer was flattened through the Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine prior to adhering to a Pool Party Cardstock layer with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.  Linen Thread was double wrapped around the layers and tied off with bow.  The Cheerful Daisies larger die was colored with Light Wild Wheat and Light Smoky Slate Stampin' Blends Markers.  The assembled daisy was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The wee little heart from the Thoughtful Moments Dies was adhered with half of a Mini Glue Dot around my little corner of the world!

The layers were repeated for the inside of the card.  The Notes of Nature sentiment was stamped with Lost Lagoon ink allowing space for additional correspondence to the recipient.  The Very Vanilla Medium Envelope front and flap were off-stamped to complete the card ensemble.
