Today's Project

This month I collaborated with the lovely Jan Clothier from New Zealand to CAS(e) a team member that neither one of us have previously CAS(e)d.  Jan and I decided to CAS(e) the talented Cheryll Miller from South Australia!  This is Cheryll's amazing project that she created for Global Design Project #213 and was selected as the winner.  **SWOON**

With CAS(e)ing this hands down favorite of ours, Jan and I decided to use Soft Sea Foam as our common color to pull our two projects together.

So this is what I created!

Project Details

I had the pleasure of meeting Cheryll at OnStage-Orlando the year that I became a demonstrator.  Cheryl and Jenny Hall were the first two demonstrators that I saw as I was on my way to registration and seeing them brought tears to my eyes as I admired them both plus we were members of an exclusive tutorial bundle group.  So thankful my upline Chris Smith took this picture of us!

Tears of happiness when I saw two dear friends, Jenny Hall and Cheryll Miller, at OnStage-Orlando in November 2018.

Long story, short story.... I was thrilled that Jan and I both wanted to CAS(e) Cheryll.  So now to the details of the card that I created.

Cheryll's card was filled with techniques and if you have ever seen one of her Facebook Lives then you know she loves techniques and the more the better.  So I opted to follow her lead...

The Timber 3D Embossing Folder was inked with Smoky Slate on the raised side of the folder to emboss the Soft Sea Foam cardstock layer.  The embossed layer was scored at every 1" after a starting point was determined to create the faux planks.  A sponge dauber was used to apply Whisper White ink to create the whitewashed look.  (TIP:  I pressed an acrylic on my ink pad to use for picking up the ink.)

The 3" wide strip of Basic White cardstock was created with images from the Textured Florals Stamp Set using Flirty Flamingo, Highland Heather, Lost Lagoon and Soft Sea Foam ink.  The largest floral and leaves were masked to create the layered look.

Color samples I did to determine the color palette I chose. | Nature's INKspirations by Angie McKenzie

Having a hard time choosing which shade of pink I wanted, it was much easier after stamping my sampling of colors.  And like Cheryll, I learned from first attempt what not to do when stamping the masked background (ie, I definitely wanted the stamped off version of Soft Sea Foam for the background;  and the stamped off versions of the Highland Heather florals needed to be done on scraps not directly on the background after stamping over the masked floral image.)

Basic White Baker's Twine was double wrapped around both front layers and tied off with a bow prior to adhering the sentiment panel adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals with a touch of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to align the panel along the edge.  A fussy cut floral was added for depth and overlap to the stamped panel.  A few Festive Pearls were added as a finishing touch.

The inside was stamped and layered to compliment the card front leaving plenty of room to correspond to a dear friend.  The Basic White Medium envelope front and flap were stamped to complete the ensemble.

Jan and I decided to share our projects with each other before the blog hop and I had a few hours to spare yesterday afternoon to CAS(e) Jan's card!

Our next door neighbor died unexpectedly last Thursday and I've been needing to make a sympathy card for his family.  I had a feeling Jan was going to use daisies and when I saw her fern background I knew I had to case it with a masculine twist.  The addition of Daffodil Delight on the daisies, Lost Lagoon leaves and sentiment with Linen Thread and a Crumb Cake layer gave Jan's design an organic look perfect for the occasion I needed.  The Nature's Print fern was the off-stamped image used for background.  I chose to fussy cut the Charming Sentiments sentiment though there are coordinating dies for it.

The inside was layered and stamped to compliment the front.  The sentiments from Hope You Know and Charming Sentiments were stamped with Lost Lagoon ink while the Nature's Print fern image was off-stamped with Soft Sea Foam.  The Basic White Medium Envelope flap was embossed and inked identically to the the card front.

This has indeed a fun-filled and much need collaboration with new friend from across the waters.  Thanks so much for the creative time, Jan, and thank you, dear Cheryll for the amazing card that we both so enjoyed CAS(e)ing!

  9. Well Angie, I just don't know where to start. It was an absolute pleasure to chat with you and to collaborate with you on this CASe of Cheryll! That you then turned around and found time to CASe my CASe?!! That was going above and beyond but thank you! I hadn't taken on board when I first saw your card that you'd added in faux plank lines - I thought you'd dug out the old Hardwood Planks folder... what a lift that gives to the look of the Timber folder!

  10. these two projects are fantastic...
There is always so much feeling in what you create and why you create it and I am always so moved by your posts (even allowing for the rough machine translation)
Your cards are superb and the idea of mixing the Slate ink with the embossing folder and adding even more craft...
It's really wonderful. Thank you for this unique moment Angie!
