Season of Chic seascape |
Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I am hopping with the Casually Crafting Design Team! This month's theme is a Colour Challenge so there are sure to be quite a few inspirations to get your mojo going with some creativity. There are several of us hopping today - you will find the list to follow along towards the bottom of my blog post - so sit back and enjoy your favorite coffee, tea, water or smoothie as we share some handmade projects with you!
Today's Project
I was totally mesmerized by the colors and the photo inspiration for this month's color challenge! I'm not much into frozen drinks except for my daily smoothie so my eyes drifted to the horizon... walking on the beach as the waves come tumbling onto the shoreline. I cannot tell you how I love walking on the beach to get a natural exfoliation treatment for my feet while collecting seashells....
Project Details
With an idea in mind, I knew that create the desired color range of Sweet Sorbet reflected in the frosty glass, that the color would need to be stamped off or watercolored to make me happy. Playing around with both ideas, I opted for watercoloring with all three colors on Shimmery White cardstock (like the sparkling of the ocean water and the sand) with my Broad Tip Water Painter. Using the lids as my palette made this simple and easy to do.
The Sahara Sand watercolor was torn towards to me creating the horizon for the card. It was lined up against the second watercolor to create the sky and setting sun. The layers were adhered with Multipurpose Liquid Glue and trimmed to create a 4-1/2" square background.
The Season of Chic splatter image was stamped in VersaMark onto the background randomly several different times and heat embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. Two seashells off-stamped with Sahara Sand to compliment the watercolor wash. Each seashell was fussycut, rounded under along the edges with a bone folder and adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals. Natural 1/2" Woven Ribbon was trimmed in thirds with two sections tied together to create a floppy bow. The bow was adhered just beneath the bottom of the two seashells with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
The heat embossed sentiment strip was placed over the center of the bow and adhered along the two side edges with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. The decorated background was adhered to a slightly larger Shimmery White layer. The adhered layers were adhered at a jaunty angle to a 5" square Crumb Cake card base.
The inside was layered to compliment the card front using a 1/4" smidge of watercolor scraps to accentuate the seashell. The card fits nicely in standard 5-1/2" square envelopes found in your local stationery store.
