Hello and welcome to the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop! We are glad you have joined us and look forward to spending time with you as we Shake Things Up as we try something new to us. So sit back and enjoy your favorite cuppa as you enjoy your trip Around the World on Wednesday!
Today's Project
This Shake It Up! challenge got me to try something that I've been wanting to try every since I saw this amazing Hexagon Pinwheel Card by Sam of Mixed Up Craft. The dimensions that she provided created these lovely larger cards; however, I wanted to make it work for our Medium Envelopes. So with some a bit of determination, creativity and energy overflowing from the Midyear Summer Challenge, I did it!!!
Project Details
Cut and score the Basic White Cardstock (dimensions and paper cuts for everything are at the end of this blog post under "Time to Use Your Paper Trimmer") card base. Burnish the folds with your Bone Folder. Adhere the smallest end with liquid glue along the last score line to form the hexagon card base.
Die cut six panels with the Ornate Layers Die and trim to 1-3/4" wide. Now the fun begins! It's time to stamp die-cut layers. The Delicate Dahlias sentiment was stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto five different layers using the Hinge Stamping technique with the Stamparatus.
Stamp the smaller dahlia image in Daffodil Delight ink on the five stamped die-cut layers. Clean the stamp and repeat with Poppy Parade and Melon Mambo inks. Stamp the small leaf image in Granny Apple Green and stamp as you desire (I tend to use the 3 leaves rule for balance). The remaining blank die-cut panel is where you will correspond to the recipient so leave it intentionally blank. Arrange the layers as you wish being careful to note the direction of the "spinning pinwheel". Adhere to hexagon sides with Multipurpose Liquid Glue one at a time being careful to line up with the sides and the score line.
This cards folds flat nicely...just remember that however you flatten it will be how the recipient will first see it. You might wish to enclose a "how-to" stand note to the recipient if you feel they will not be able to figure out that it's a stand alone card.

Beautiful card Angie. I need to try this fold. I LOVE the inside of your envelope too. Thanks for getting us to shake it up this month x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rochelle. You will love making this simple fun-fold! So glad you enjoyed the theme this month! :)
DeleteWow Angie. What an amazing fold! Definite WOW factor! Love how it folds up to fit in an envelope! xxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cheryll! It was definitely a fun trial and error project to create! Now that the measurements are done it will be so easy to replicate in less time. xx
DeleteI love this pretty card and all of the creativity involved, especially how you incorporated the dies and stamped on that wavy DSP. I might have to give this a try this during playtime with one of my downline this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Chris! Yes, the stamping on the SAB DSP was a fun thing that I decided to do after the liner was in the envelope - so glad I hadn't adhered it, yet, as it made it easier to stamp. :)
DeleteOOH I have been putting off making one of these..but you have given such great instructions I just might have to try it!! Thanks for pushing us all to be better this month!! Best of Luck on your challenge!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Annette! You will love creating one of these Hexagon Pinwheel Cards... so fun to do!!! You are so welcome... it's definitely been fun especially for those who persisted and saw the challenge to the end! :)
DeleteSuch a stunning card design. Thanks for shaking up my world with your wonderful challenges. Your card has inspired me to try this fancy fold.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Tricia. You are so welcome... thanks for being up to challenge! You will enjoy creating this fancy fold. :)
DeleteAngie, that's such a beautiful card and I love the fold!! Very unusual! Thanks for always pushing us to be better and try something different! Your blog hops are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cheryl! Definitely something that I can see you trying to do in one of your card classes! So glad to have you on this amazing journey around the world with us. :)
DeleteYour card is as beautiful as it is creative! Stamping on the DSP for the envelope is gorgeous. Stunning card and envelope 😍
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Leonie. Nothing like completing a card all the through. xx
DeleteWow, this is beautiful. Your patience with modifying the dimension is amazing. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Teri! It was fun to create! :)
DeleteReally gorgeous, Angie. I love that lacy edge die but have yet to try out a hexagonal tower card - very ambitious of you! Fabulous result - I like those colours.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jan! I greatly appreciate your comments. Can't wait to see if you attempt a try with this fun-fold. x
DeleteBeautiful card Angie! I like the idea of a card that can be displayed - with a bunch of paper flowers inside it could be beautiful - One question however, does it have to repeat the pattern on all sides? One could imagine like a story told on each shutter? There you have it, this creation gives me a lot of ideas anyway, which makes it an undeniable success! Thank you for sharing !
ReplyDeleteOf course! Doing a story around the card would be fabulous... something that the recipient could enjoy whenever they wish just by turning it. Making it with like or gradient (like I did) makes it easier to choose which side the recipient wished to display. Cannot wait to see what you create with this fun-fold, Aurélie! :)
