Flowers of Friendship for the Ink and Inspiration Blog Hop - June 2021 | Let Your Colors Shine!

Today's Project

PURPLE is the color that is shining for me this month!!!!  June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month!

Earlier this week, I attended "the longest day" Alzheimer's event at the senior living facility where my parents live.  It is so wonderful having them nearby and even more so when the event benefits a cause dear to my heart... the Alzheimer's Association.  During my collegiate rush days when I was bombarded with all sorts of information, gerontology was the philanthropy that stood out the most to me and I was so blessed to join the sorority that supports this program for the elderly along with the addition of Alzheimer's disease in 1984.  

The Flowers of Friendship Bundle on page 78 of the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog is what I chose to highlight with the color purple for this fun color theme this month.  Purple is the color for the Alzheimer's Association and I hope that you enjoy the project inspired by this amazing color.

Project Details

Two previously prepared backgrounds were pulled from my stash to create today's project.  One background was created with Stampin' Emboss Paste mixed with drops of Daffodil Delight reinker and one of the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks on Basic White cardstock.  The second background was inspired by the exclusive Bijou Butterfly DSP (retired and part of the Butterfly Brilliance Early Release earlier this year) by watercoloring leaf fill image from the Floating & Fluttering Cling Stamp Set using Just Jade ink and a damp medium tip Water Painter to create the random generational stamping on Shimmery White Cardstock.  

The leaf watercolor background was calling for the floral spray as the focal point.  The image was stamped with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto Basic White Cardstock.  The leaves were colored with the Just Jade Stampin' Blends Markers.  The blooms were colored with the Faux Alcohol Coloring Technique using an old Blender Pen, Gorgeous Grape Classic Stampin' Ink Refill, and liquid hand sanitizer.  This technique is perfect when there isn't a Stampin' Blends Marker for the color you wish to use.  A slight shake of the hand while coloring the blooms created a small smudge outside the lines... so the vellum Meadows Dies butterfly was folded in half with the body portion of the half butterfly in Basic White and adhered to the stamped layer with a Mini Glue Dot.  

The sentiment was stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Basic White cardstock.  The sentiment layer was adhered on two additional same size layers to create a sturdy layer for the mail.  Linen Thread was wrapped around the stamped layer twice and tied off with a bow.  The watercolor layer was adhered to a Just Jade Cardstock layer.  The final layers were adhered to the vertical top folding Gorgeous Grape card base.

The inside was completed with card layers and stamping to compliment the card front.  The front of the envelope and the flap were also stamped as a sneak peek to the recipient for what's inside. 

To compliment the dotted embossing paste background, the flower punch was calling to be used... the question was whether to use both sizes or one size.  I decided on the latter for simplicity's sake. Using my Flowers & Leaves Punch Guide  (a piece of Basic White Thick cardstock about the size of a half card front that has been punched and set aside), the large floral stamp was aligned within the opening and pressed onto a clear block.  The image was stamped with Memento ink and stamped along a strip of Basic White cardstock at least seven times.  The stamped flowers were punched out then colored with the Faux Alcohol Coloring Technique with the Gorgeous Grape Classic Stampin' Ink Refill, hand sanitizer and a blender Pen.  The centers were colored with the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends Marker.  The flowers were arranged in a half circle wreath and adhered with Mini Glue Dots on a 3/4" square piece of Basic White Cardstock.  The Art in Bloom sentiment was stamped with VersaMark ink onto a Gorgeous Grape Blooms Dies label trimmed to compliment the width of the sentiment.

The White Baker's Twine was wrapped around the wreath layer twice and tied off with a bow.  The heat embossed sentiment die-cut was adhered over the twine with a dimensional and liquid glue.  The wreath layer was adhered to the embossing paste background with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The layers were then  adhered to the horizontal top folding Gorgeous Grape card base.

The inside was completed with card layers and stamping to compliment the card front.  The front of the envelope and the flap were also stamped as a sneak peek to the recipient for what's inside.
