Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I am hopping with the Casually Crafting Design Team! This month's theme is an informal sketch so there are sure to be quite a few different interpretations of the sketch giving you lots of inspiration. There are several of us hopping today - you will find the list to follow along towards the bottom of my blog post - so sit back and enjoy your favorite coffee, tea, water or smoothie as we share some handmade projects with you!
Today's Project
I love hydrangeas... and when I first saw Sara's sketch, I knew that I would be using the Beautiful Friendship hydrangeas for this sketch. Highland Heather and Balmy Blue were the first colors that came to mind and then I remembered the amazing starting and ending colors of my hydrangeas that resemble Soft Sea Foam and Fresh Freesia.
Project Details
One stamp set, two ink pads, two packs of Basic White cardstock (one regular and one thick) and some twine are all you need to create these cards quickly! And if you choose, two more ink pads and some pearls for some simple, elegant embellishments.
The hydrangea image was inked with Balmy Blue and stamped on a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" Basic White cardstock layer. The image was reinked, stamped on a post-it note and fussy cut to create a mask. The mask was placed over the blue image. The hydrangea image was cleaned and inked with Highland Heather and stamped beside the blue image.
This process was repeated several times. Alternatives included reversing the colors and applying ink with a sponge dauber! Some of my favorite were made by inking the hydrangea image with Balmy Blue and then applying Highland Heather ink with a sponge dauber. And then I made some with Soft Sea Foam and Fresh Freesia.
Custom artistry paper (CAP) was made on the second layers of Basic White cardstock measuring 3-1/8" x 5-1/8". The hydrangea image was inked in the color of the forefront hydrangea(s) and stamped along both ends. The sentiments were inked to coordinate with the CAP layers and stamped on Basic White scraps from cutting the layers. The sentiment layers were simply trimmed and long enough to fold under the hydrangea layer. Twine was wrapped around the sentiment layer twice and tied off with a bow.
The layers were adhered with Multipurpose Liquid Glue onto the standard size Basic White Thick card bases. The cards were each embellished with three pearls.
For someone special, you can fussy cut the sentiment, add twine across the top and some color-coordinated pearls!
And if you prefer, you can turn the horizontal layout on its side for a vertical layout. I did this vertical card to save the card layer that I loved as it had a minor extra stamp mark... which is hidden by sentiment!
With the Basic White Thick cardbases, the insides were kept simple by stamping a single hydrangea image to coordinate with the cardfronts. The Basic White Medium envelopes will also be stamped on the fronts and the envelope flaps to give the recipients a sneak peek of what's inside.
