Welcome to the official launch of the Stamping INKspirations Blog Hop! I am so thankful to be hopping with some of my talented stamping friends from around the world who love creating with Stampin' Up!® products as much as I do! We will be hopping on the second weekends of the month - Saturday or Sunday depending on where you are in the world - and look forward to sharing lots of inspiration with you. So sit back and relax with your favorite cuppa as you peruse the hop.
This month we are sharing things related to our theme of Something New. There are so many things that are something new... the new year, a new start, a new family member, etc. I chose to use some new products in my craft room along with a new technique!
I have always been fascinated by architecture... those close to me know that if I'm not photographing my loved ones it's nature or architecture. One of the first bundles that I fell in love with after getting to preview the new January-June 2021 Mini Catalog was the Welcoming Window Bundle which you can find on pages 58 and 80. My heart did a little pitter patter flip! FINALLY, all the pictures I've taken over the decades can inspire my handmade cards!
Seriously, if you could take a look at my photo albums before I got married... you would see them filled filled with family and architecture. We would go on vacation... and I would have to stop and take a picture of a building or the details like the doors, porches and windows. I would even take pictures of us standing just so to include the architectural details for memories.
The new amazing Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder is the perfect backdrop to these window scenes... whether you envision it as the stucco or the mortar from the bricks. I was watching a Jennifer McGuire last week and had one of those aha moments... she was going on about this Gel Press Technique. It was really cool to watch... almost ordered one of those gel presses and then I was like - no need to do that because you already have one that you use all the time! So last night I pulled out my handy dandy Silicone Craft Sheet, my old brayer (it's smooth) and three ink pads (Sahara Sand, Gray Granite and Petal Pink) and had FUN!!!
These are the backgrounds that I had fun creating. I was envisioning the old Southern buildings in Savannah, Charleston and St. Simon's Island from years gone by... the brick and stucco. Many of which were soft brownish gray with touches of pink faded away by years of weathering. The darkest background that you see was my first attempt. Definitely too much ink for the look I was going for... but don't worry, I already know how I'm going to use it! All of these backgrounds will be popping up in cards over the next several months as the texture that this technique creates is just amazing.
I did this technique on my Stamparatus. You can see where and how I inked the Silicone Craft Sheet. You want to be careful not to overlap the colors so you do not cross-contaminate your ink pads. The brayer will move the colors and white spots, smudges, etc., are welcome! You can also use the brayer two or three times after the initial inking for different looks and color variations. I used a dry microfiber cloth to wipe the Silicone Craft Sheet before adding more ink.
TIP: Do not press hard with the ink pad... just tap. This is a fun creative process so play around with lots of different colors and different ways of layering with die cuts, etc. You will be amazed with how simple and fun this is to do.
The inside was layered and stamped to compliment the card front. And don't forget to stamp the envelope to give the recipient a sneak peek of what's inside. I am looking forward to sending this card to a friend to let her know that I'm thinking of her.
I hope that this project has inspired you to create a project with a new item, one you haven't used in awhile or a new technique. Please continue along the hop to see what Jo and the others have created. I am sure you will be filled with lots of inspiration! And should you be inspired, please leave us a comment... we would love to hear from you.

ReplyDeleteNo.... the ink pads were tapped on the Silicone Craft Sheet and then rolled with the brayer. I have a step-by-step photo tutorial that you can view here https://www.facebook.com/NaturesINKspirations/posts/854978858380142
