Welcome to the January 2021 edition of the Around the World on Wednesday Blog Hop! Twenty of my Stampin' Up! Demonstrator friends are joining me in this worldwide hug that stretches all the way from New Zealand to Hawaii across twelve different time zones. We love sharing sunshine with you through projects from our individual parts of the world on the second Wednesdays of the month.
In December, Pantone announced its color selections for 2021, Ultimate Gray and Illuminating which immediately made me think of my friend, Emma, who loves these colors. From a designer's aspect these colors are perfect to represent the hopes of the better days ahead for a new year. Several decades ago, I loved surrounding myself with paint and fabric swatches as I designed interior swatch boards. Today I love surrounding myself with cardstock and ink pads as I design cards and scrapbook pages.
My Favorite Inspiration Source is nature which I lovingly refer to as God's artwork. Inspiration is everywhere from the minute I wake up and catch a glimpse of the sunrise to when I close my eyes at night thinking of vast heavens above this amazing place called Earth. I love to browse through the gazillion pictures that I have taken while enjoying my time outside whether it's gardening, chatting with family or friends, spending time with my boys, or enjoying my daily walks with my sidekick, Benji, along the metropark trail behind our property (weather and health permitting, of course). These pictures are the sources of so many of my projects. Every now and then, I challenge myself to think outside the box, and that's when I use inspiration sources from the textile industry filled with fabrics, textures and colors in clothing, upholstery, quilts, tapestries, and more. And as my mojo gets rejuvenated everything comes full circle back to nature.
Today, I am using inspiration from some pictures taken on our property in early November 2020. These dandelions made me smile as they were under our blue spruces where Benji had sniffed many times before more than likely related to fluffy white tails. Rabbit food is my guess. **wink**
Around the time of OnStage where we got sneak peeks of upcoming January-June 2021 Mini Catalog, I was thrilled to spot these late bloomers. Nothing like spotting a dandelion and wanting to blow the seeds, right?!? So why not use artistic colors to spread some sunshine on these cloudy winter days here in NW Ohio? Sahara Sand and Daffodil Delight were delighted to spread some cheer as today's color palette.
Last week, I enjoyed playing with the Gel Press Technique (click here for details). Today's cards all feature backgrounds created with that one play! The soft subtle backgrounds created with Sahara Sand and Gray Granite were the perfect touch to these dandelion images.
This stepped up version features a white heat embossed sentiment banner strip with the stamped image colored with Light Crumb Cake, Light Gray Granite and Light Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends. The stamped Gel Press Background layer with the colored stamped image was adhered to stair step layers of Sahara Sand cardstock. The Daffodil Delight card base opens up to additional coordinating layering and stamping.
The last card is also stepped up and features coloring with Blends, heat embossing, fussy cutting and stamping! With so many details, the Gel Press Technique background layer is one of the lightest of the backgrounds created. Most would think that the background is just Basic White... however, someone with an eye for detail would notice the slight color difference in the soft hues of Sahara Sand and Gray Granite.
These Dragonfly Garden and Garden Wishes stamp sets along with coordinating dies and a punch create bundles that are part of the new amazing Dandy Garden Suite featured on pages 24-27 of the new January-June 2021 Mini Catalog. The products are truly amazing and full of inspiration. And by purchasing all of the Suite or some of it, you may earn some Sale-a-Bration products now through the end of February.
I hope these projects using My Favorite Inspiration Source has inspired you to think of ways that you can use them yourself with your projects.
